SVR and ITC Reports

This is the first blog entry I have made about my SVR and ITC projects. Mainly because I haven't had much to say about them until now!

I am struggling. Struggling to get motivated, to understand what I'm doing, why I'm doing it and where all of this is going!

What I have done today is to sit down, re-read all of the reviews, blogs and articles that I had collected, do some more brainstorms and try to remind myself what it is that I am interested in.

So, I am still looking at book covers and their designs but the direction it is going in, is how book covers are designed to maximise sales. I have lots of retail and visual merchandising experience and I am going to try and work this report into something that I know a lot about and that interests me. As at the moment, I have lost all interest in the project.

I have done my first ever online survey, using Survey Monkey. The results were interesting and helpful but I had some technical problems that I fear may have skewed some of the results. I am going to try and create some visuals that represent the results.

I have contacted a few people in the publishing industry with the aim to asking them a few simple questions regarding book design and marketing.

I am still in the research stage and need to continue with this for a little while longer and use some different methods to get gain a broad understanding of many different aspects.

The experimental aspect of the project is seriously behind, so I need to devote some time to this.

I am continuing to draft and re-draft my report as my ideas alter and hopefully I will be a little clearer on the layout of this essay very soon.

Apologies about the very text heavy post, but I am just using this blog as a way of reminding myself what I've done and what I need to do-which is a lot!

Help and advice welcome as always!

Bridging Studies

I am currently studying a two week course at LCC to prepare me for the 3rd year of the BA. This week we have been drafting our proposals for the final Research Report. I am researching the history of book cover design, and how important they are in convincing a consumer to buy. I have been focussing on Penguin books this week, and have discovered how and why they became such a successful brand and British Icon.
I am planning on tracking one particular book that has been re-published numerous times and analysing the similarities and differences between the multiple designs to see what is successful (and unsuccessful).

My first Post

Now that I have some spare time I have decided to get my blog up and running properly.
I have just found out that I have achieved a 2:1 on my FdA degree course at LCC and been accepted to continue my studies next year so that I will then graduate with a BA-hopefully!

In the mean time, I will be working on freelance projects so please contact me for more information.

I will start uploading images of my work asap.
